Basic Purpose:

We are looking for a highly motivated and intellectually curious individual to join our growing Emerging Markets Corporate Debt team as a Research Associate (RA). The primary role of the RA will be to support our senior corporate analysts in their investment idea generation and position monitoring processes. The RA will be part of a lean team covering the broader EM corporate credit universe, which is a $2 trillion asset class. Responsibilities will include creating and maintaining financial models, conducting due diligence on potential investment opportunities, and completing one-off tasks (e.g. industry reviews, meeting notes, etc.) related to the investment process. The analyst will cover all EM regions, including Latin America, Eastern Europe, Middle East, Africa, and Asia.

Responsibilities:

  • Partner with and support senior analysts throughout their investment process;
  • Perform in-depth fundamental due diligence of corporates located in emerging markets;
  • Build, maintain, and enhance robust financial and valuation models;
  • Distill complex analysis into clear, actionable insights for the investment team;
  • Produce concise, high quality research notes and synthesize data to highlight key investment themes, events and market developments;
  • Proactively source potential new investment opportunities through internal screening tools, industry research, conferences, and other relevant channels; and
  • Present analysis in team meetings, incorporate feedback, and continuously enhance presentation effectiveness.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree with a high GPA
  • 1 - 3 years of experience in investment banking and/or asset management
  • A genuine interest in building a career in emerging markets finance
  • Ability to work well under pressure and handle tight deadlines
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a good team player
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
  • Willingness to travel for work.

Preferred:

  • Spoken Spanish and/or Portugese

Pay Transparency:

Expected base pay rates for the role will be between $80,000 and $140,000 per year at the commencement of employment. However, base pay if hired will be determined on an individualized basis and is only part of the total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, incentive compensation, discretionary bonuses, other short and long-term incentive packages, and other Morgan Stanley sponsored benefit programs.
